Worship in Spirit and Truth

Building on the idea of anticipation and expectation of coming into the present of the Lord, we will explore more fully what it means to be in his presence. To worship “in spirit and truth” is more than just ‘heartfelt’ worship, it is understanding that the spirit of God mediates and is present in worship wherever followers of Jesus gather. This comes to light in Jesus’ conversation with the woman at the well. While in OT times they worshipped ‘on’ (or more correctly translated “in” the mountain), he says there will be a time and now is a time when we worship “in spirit and truth” meaning not having to go to a physical place, but rather that it is the spirit of God who mediates and is present in our worship as Christians.
